On Parade

Artist David Merrill shows his hand-painted rooster statue, “Newtown Forever,” which is one of many being customized by volunteer artisans as part of a Newtown Parent Connection fundraising program. The brightly colored piece is on display now at Flagpole Realty and will be auctioned off with its counterparts at a Parent Connection event in January. In the style of New York’s “Cows on Parade,” the rooster program is seeking artists to customize the ceramic statues and local businesses and organizations to eventually bid on them and display the finished works. Anyone interested in taking one of the few remaining statues to decorate is asked to call Dorie Carolan at 426-8591.
