DUI Arrest

Police report they observed motorist Joseph Cioppa, 75, of Easton cross the center line of South Main Street several times about 11:56 pm December 9, so they attempted to stop him to investigate. Cioppa initially slowed, but then resumed driving at normal speeds, police said. After driving two miles into Monroe, Cioppa eventually stopped, police said.

After investigating, police charged Cioppa with driving under the influence, failure to obey a police officer’s signal, and failure to drive to the right. Police released Cioppa on $300 bail for a January 5 court appearance.

Huntingtown Road

At about 4:51 pm December 12, motorist George Kerr, 46, of Monroe, who was driving a 1996 Subaru Impreza, was heading southward on Huntingtown Road, police said.

An unidentified northbound motorist then sideswiped the Subaru, stopped, and then sped off, police said. Kerr was not injured. The offending vehicle was a dark sedan which now has damage to its left front fender.

Police ask anyone with information on the crash to contact Patrol Officer David Kullgren at the police station at 426-5841.
