Home Helpers Now Offering Computerized

Meds Dispensing System

The owners of Direct Link, a division of Home Helpers of Newtown, are now offering automated medication dispensers in addition to their line of 24-hour personal emergency response systems. Employing user-friendly microchip technology, the affordable, easy-to-use Med Dispenser dispenses multiple medications at preset dates and times.

“This Med Dispenser,” explained company co-owner Tony Chieffo, “instantly alleviates the stress of forgetting to take a medication, taking double doses, taking a medication at the wrong time, opening and closing pill bottles, or identifying pills or bottles, which is especially helpful if an individual is visually impaired.”

Mr Chieffo said studies prove that keeping up with multiple medications can be a challenge, and dangerous, especially when certain medications need to be taken at specific times during a day. The Alliance for Health Reform reports that nearly 20 percent of US senior citizens take up to 50 prescriptions each year.

Med Dispenser’s computer technology is designed to dispense multiple medications at preset times each day. Times are set on a digital alarm clock, allowing accurate dispensing of medications by the Med Dispenser, which can hold up to 28 doses of medication.

“The user then closes the Med Dispenser,” Mr Chieffo said, “under lock and key, not simply a latch. When a dose is ready to be dispensed, an alarm sounds and a red light flashes. If the dose is not taken, the 24 hour/seven days per week Care Center will call to remind the client via a customized contact list.

The dispenser is compatible with digital cable/VoIP phone service and is A/C operated with a 72-hour rechargeable battery backup in the event of travel or power failures.

Direct Link, and its Med Dispenser product, is affiliated with Home Helpers, the nation’s leading senior care franchise specializing in nonmedical and personal care and companionship for seniors, new mothers, those recovering from illness or injury, and individuals facing lifelong challenges.

Home Helpers offers free in-home consultations and works with clients individually to tailor flexible care plans to meet their specific needs and budgets. Services offered include companionship, bathing, meal preparation, dressing assistance, medication reminders, local transportation, running errands, and light housekeeping throughout the Fairfield and western New Haven County areas.

To introduce the new Medication Dispensing Unit to Connecticut residents, Direct Link is offering the first month of use free, plus free professional installation of the system.

“After the first free month of service, there is a nominal monthly fee of $34.99,” Mr Chieffo said. “To initiate the service, there is no equipment to purchase, and we don’t require a long-term contract or obligation to continue service after the initial month.”

After the free month of service for the separate response system, there is a nominal monthly fee of $29.99.
