Government By Referendum?
Government By Referendum?
To the Editor:
Newtown has a motto: âNicer in Newtown.â Those of us who wish to keep it that way will think twice before casting votes for IPN candidates. IPN ânaysayersâ have yet to say anything positive about how Newtown is run. They would have us believe every decision made by our elected officials has been wrong. Nothing but negativity from this group. They appeal to voters by saying virtually every decision made in town should involve each and every taxpayerâs approval.
For some instances this is true, but they forget the process we live by. We the people elect our town government to make most of the decisions for us. We trust them to do the right thing. That is why we elected them in the first place. If they fail to please us we have our say at the next election. If enough of us are unhappy with them, they are replaced by others. This is the process America has thrived on for all these years.
I personally do not care for a referendum or town meeting every week to make decisions we elected our town government to do. Do we need a referendum to decide which color paper clips town hall should purchase each month? Okay, perhaps a bit far fetched, but are the IPN folks afraid to make decisions on their own?
Uninformed IPN whistleblowers have already cost the town approximately $600,000 during Fairfield Hills construction. That was an IPN spite move geared solely to embarrass and discredit Newtown officials at the time, and Newtown taxpayers paid the freight on that one. We need to keep informed leadership in office now and always. Keep the disgruntled, uninformed naysayers at bay and out of office. Our Board of Education eliminated our owner-operators for school bus service under IPN chairmanship.
Yes, it is Nicer in Newtown. Please cast your vote to keep it that way.
