Soccer Club Referee Class

 

A seven-week course for anyone wishing to become a soccer referee is being offered by the Newtown Soccer Club. Classes will be held Tuesdays, February 15 through April 4, from 6 to 9 pm, at the Newtown Middle School. Attendance at each class is mandatory. Pre-registration is also required. Participants must be at least 12 years of age at the time of registration. Class size is limited. Fee is $55, but applicants who complete the test with a passing grade will receive a refund. Babe Ruth Registrations

 

Newtown Babe Ruth registrations for ages 6-18 are being held Monday through Friday, January 24-28, 6:30 to 9 pm as well as Saturdays, January 29th and February 5, from 9 am to 3. Registration will take place in the Lower Meeting Room of the Edmond Town Hall. Registrants MUST bring their original or notarized birth certificate. Please call 426-6616 with any questions.

Youth Lacrosse Coaches Sought

 

The Newtown Youth Lacrosse Association is seeking coaches for its boys’ and girls’ teams. Experience in the game is helpful, but not required. Openings are in the girls’ 3rd through 6th grade level and the boys’ 3rd through 8th grade level. Call Ken Law at 270-3905 or Tom D’Agostino at 426-4133 for further information.

U16 Travel Softball

 

A 16-and-under girls’ traveling softball team (name still undetermined) will be holding tryouts for the summer 2000 season. Any players interested in participating should call Frank Bonacci at 426-3361 for further details on sites and times.

Striker Indoor Winter Classic

 

The Sherman Soccer Club will host its third annual Striker Indoor Soccer Winter Classic tournament on Saturday and Sunday, January 30, at the O’Neill Center on the campus of Western Connecticut State University in Danbury. Each team will be guaranteed five games, playing on a point system for the final match. Call Don Murphy at 1-203-266-0515 for information.

Breeze Has One Roster Spot Open

 

The Connecticut Breeze 18-and-under fastpitch softball team has one roster spot for a PITCHER remaining for the year 2000 summer season. Tryouts are by appointment. If interested, call Mark McCusker at 1-203-426-1501 or Tom Charney at 1-203-877-9148.

Brewster Rockets Seeking Players

Trout Workshop

 

Tim Barry and Ed Machowski, fisheries biologists with the Department of Environmental Protection, will lead a workshop on Trout, Insects & Fly Tying – Match the Hatch on Saturday, February 5, from 1:30 to 3 pm, at the Conservation Education Center, Wildlife Management Area, off Route 69 in Burlington.
