DANBURY HOSPITAL

Patrick Malloy, MD, of Newtown, has been appointed chairman of the hospital’s Department of Radiology. A member of the department since 1997, he has a broad background in diagnostic and interventional radiology including past appointments at the University of Maryland Medical System and the Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore.

Catherine Olson, a certified physician assistant from Newtown, has joined the Department of Radiology to provide care and support for people receiving interventional and vascular radiological services. Prior to her appointment, she was a physician assistant in the Department of Radiology at Westchester Medical Center.

John Rundback, MD, is the hospital’s new director of vascular and interventional radiology. He formerly was director of clinical research in the Department of Radiology at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, N.Y. He also is an associate professor of radiology and surgery at New York Medical College.

Audrey Yu has joined the hospital’s Main Street Physical Rehabilitation Center as the Pediatric Program Coordinator. Certified as a clinical specialist in pediatric physical therapy, she earned a post-professional master of health science degree in physical therapy from the University of Indianapolis, where she also served a two-year pediatric physical therapy fellowship.

Howard Blanchette, MD, has been named chairman of the hospital’s Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He is certified by both the American and Canadian boards of obstetrics/gynecology, and formerly was chairman of the department at the MetroWest Medical Center in Framingham, Mass.

St Vincent’s Medical Center

Michael E. Smith, MD, formerly chief of the Section of Trauma Surgical Critical Care at Guthrie Clinic of Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Penn., has been appointed chief of the Division of Trauma at St Vincent’s. He also has been named chief of the Section of Surgical Critical Care, director of the trauma program, and director of the surgical intensive care unit.

Shannon Spalthoff, RN, a five-year veteran of St Vincent’s Emergency Department, has been appointed trauma nurse coordinator. She will coordinate all of the activities of the trauma center including administration, relationships with other hospitals, physician and staff liaison within the medical center, and public education.

David H. Levien, MD, has been named chairperson of the Department of Surgery at St Vincent’s. He previously was at Episcopal Hospital in Philadelphia, where he was a clinical professor of surgery.

 

Southbury Geriatric Center

Casey K. Ott, MD, a board-certified geriatrician, was been named the new medical director of the center after a nationwide search. He recently received recognition at the National American Geriatric Society Conference, where he presented a paper highlighting his research on a technique for diagnosing medical problems common to the aging process.

Associated Oral And Maxillofacial Surgeons, PC

Roger Badwal, DMD, MD, has joined the Drs Andrew Ragona and Lewis Trusheim in their practice, with offices in Danbury, Ridgefield, Southbury, and Brewster, N.Y. Dr Badwal is board-certified in the field of oral and maxillofacial surgery and was awarded NIH training fellowships during his predoctoral education. He is affiliated with the University of Connecticut Health Center, and is working on a tissue-engineering project to find a substitute for joint cartilage.

Waterbury Hospital

David Podell, MD, director of the Department of Medicine, has been elected Connecticut governor of the American College of Physicians-American Society of Internal Medicine (ACP-ASIM). His term will begin in April 2001 and extend for four years.

Stephen Widman, MD, a Waterbury cardiologist, has been named to the hospital’s board of trustees. He has been affiliated with Cardiology Associates of Waterbury for 10 years.
