DANBURY â The Danbury Animal Welfare Society, Inc. (DAWS) announced it would be hosting a hike to help the homeless animals in the community on Saturday June 21, at Tarrywile Park. DAWS invites the public to pack up their pooches and join in this two-mile charity hike in show of their support.
Participation in the hike is free; however there is a suggested donation of $10 per family. In addition to the hike, your pooch will have ample opportunity to strut his stuff in one of many dog contests. Leashes are required. Upon completion of the hike, refreshments will be available. There will also be several informational tables providing participants with an opportunity to learn more about how DAWS provides assistance to needy animals.
âThis event gives dog lovers a chance to meet each other and have their dogs play and socialize, while showing their support of their local animal shelter,â said Barbara Rodriguez, Events Coordinator for DAWS. âDogs need exercise and stimulation to be happy and healthy, and Tarrywile Park provides a beautiful setting for that.â
In any given month, DAWS rescues, cares for and provides adoption services for an average of 35 dogs and 120 cats.Â
Registration begins at 9:30 am with the hike itself and various events beginning at 10:00 am. All DAWS activities will end at noon.
For more information about the hike, call DAWS at 203-798-5816 or visit the website at www.daws.org. In case of inclement weather, please visit our website for up-to-the-minute information on the event.
