âLa Manchaâ Opens This Weekend
RIDGEFIELD â The Ridgefield Theater Barnâs final mainstage production of the 2006-07 season, the musical Man of La Mancha, will open Friday, June 15.
From the book by Dale Wasserman and winner of seven Tony Awards including Best Musical and Best Music & Lyrics, the production is under the creative direction of Craig David Rosen, produced by Paul Losacco, with musical direction by Angeline Brown.
Man of La Mancha is the epic story of knight-errant Don Quixote, his servant Sancho, and the woman of his dreams, the lovely Aldonza/Dulcinea. The tale â set during the Spanish Inquisition â tells the romantic and noble journey of a knight who sets out to right all wrongs and win the heart of a good woman dueling windmills along the way. Based on the novel The Adventures of Don Quixote and the life of its author Miguel de Cervantes, it is a tribute to the inspiration of all impossible dreams. The experienced Ridgefield Theater Barn crew includes Michelle Farella and Andrea Sack sharing duties as stage manager; award-winning scenic designer, Peter Sayer; costume designer, Sally Fine with design assistance from Heather Blue; sound design by Jose Helu; and Carol Cutler handling properties.
A talented group of actors and singers have been cast to bring the music of Mitch Leigh and the lyrics of Joe Darion to life on the Theater Barn stage.
They include Tom Sheehan as Don Quixote, Laura Budzelek as Aldonza, Bill Russell as Sancho, Martin Posner as Padre, Rachel Corn as Antonia, Stephen Shuldman as Barber, Tom Devlin as Captain, Paulette Layton as Marie, Ian Mahoney as Jose, Molly Spitz as Fermina/Horse, and Tiffany Touma as Chorus/Horse.
Performances are Friday and Saturday evenings at 8 pm 15 through July 14 with Sunday matinees at 2 pm on June 24 and July 1.
The theater barn is at 37 Halpin Lane in Ridgefield.
