Dorricos Celebrate Their Diamond Anniversary
Mr and Mrs Joseph Dorrico, formerly of Newtown, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with their daughter and son-in-law on July 26 at Centro at the Mill in Greenwich.
The former Mary Cataldo married Joseph Dorrico at Sacred Heart Church in Stamford on July 26, 1947. Stamford natives, the Dorricos also lived in Greenwich, New Canaan, and Newtown before returning to Stamford earlier this year. Their daughter and son-in-law, Rosemary and Anthony Madia, also live in Stamford.
Mary, a daughter of the late Frank and Rose Cataldo of Stamford, graduated from New Canaan High School in 1942 and Danbury State Teachers College in 1947. She was an elementary school teacher in Stamford and Greenwich before retiring in 1977. She was also active in local education associations, and was the first president of the St Roch School parent association.
Joseph, a son of the late Frank and Mary Dorrico of Stamford, graduated from Stamford High School in 1936 and served in the United States Army, Battery A, 211th Anti Aircraft Artillery (AW) Battalion, for four years during World War II.
He worked his way up for the United States Postal Service, beginning as a mail clerk in Glenville to ending as postmaster in New Canaan, retiring in 1977. Mr Dorrico is also a proud past president of the Byram as well as the New Canaan chapters of Rotary International.
The couple spent the first half of their retirement years traveling extensively, visiting five of the seven continents. On more recent journeys, they focused on the United States and its beautiful National Parks. They now divide their time between Connecticut and Florida, wintering in a warmer climate.
