Mr Nanavaty

I am puzzled by Mr Nanavaty’s response to comments made by Mrs Fetchick in last week’s edition [Letter Hive, “BOE Lack Of Comprehension Is A Concern”]. Mr Nanavaty contends that Mrs Fetchick “doesn’t understand” the Board of Education’s workings enough to comment on their financial report. Since he is running against her for his own board seat as a member of the Independent Party of Newtown, whose platform proclaims Accountability, Checks and Balances, and Transparency in Government, I would expect a response reflecting that position. Instead, we hear more of the same old “you don’t understand, so butt out” responses we have come to expect.

I, for one, will be supporting Mrs Fetchick in the upcoming elections. I believe in accountability, transparency in government, and checks and balances. I’m just not sure Mr Nanavaty does. Mrs Fetchick clearly understands that the Board of Education is allowed, by state statute, to move money around to different accounts however they please. That does not, however, preclude them from keeping the public informed and presenting a true picture of how our money is being spent.
