âOBJECT OF DESIREâ ON VIEW AT JEWISH MUSEUM TO FEB. 24
AVV 10-19 #716636
NEW YORK CITY â The Jewish Museum will present the exhibition, âObject Of Desire: Yael Kanarekâs World Of Awe,â on view through February 24.
The exhibition in the museumâs Barbara and E. Robert Goodkind Media Center is the third and newest installment of Yael Kanarekâs âWorld of Aweâ project, an online travelog chronicling the search for a lost treasure in a virtual desert landscape called Sunset/Sunrise.
Featuring 15 richly animated scenes that integrate English, Arabic and Hebrew, âObject of Desireâ draws from ancient Near Eastern themes as well as contemporary popular culture in a trilingual story space. Scenes include a cave where one finds a hidden recipe for sesame cookies written in C programming language; a three-pronged structure of Arabic, Hebrew, and English alphabets that sails across a saffron-colored sky like a flock of birds; a fossilized Noahâs Ark containing a trove of creatures who do not fit into male/female categories; and a three-dimensional map of falafel restaurants that superimposes the Middle East on the East Village.
The Jewish Museum is at 1109 Fifth Avenue at 92nd Street. For more information, www.thejewishmuseum.org or 212-423-3200.
