A Beautiful Soul
A Beautiful Soul
To the Editor:
During Sundayâs Homily [at St Rose], Father Amal [Raj Chellakan] told a story about a young Indian couple, having dated seven years and been married for three, seeking a divorce. He pointed out their oath to God to live together forever, even under difficult circumstances, and instructed them to sit down and work it out â which they did. Shortly thereafter was the Prayer of the Faithful and one of recently departed mentioned was Helen Urban.
Everything I needed to know about Helen Urban I learned during coffee one afternoon in her kitchen. Her husband Ed had always been a very active person, a hunter, someone who truly loved the outdoors, but later in life, had become a victim of diabetes and lost both of his legs. Their son would arrive each morning and assist in getting Ed from his bed to a wheelchair where Helen would care for him the entire day. She explained to me how her friends had offered to come and sit with Ed so she could have some time for herself; to go to the Mall or perhaps see a movie. But Helen said she wasnât interested in time for herself; she wanted to be with her husband.Â
Every married man in this world hopes he has a wife as faithful, as attentive and as loving as Helen Urban. She was truly a beautiful soul.
Sincerely,
Mark Dennen
