Holiday Needs & Wish List From The Volunteer Center

DANBURY — The Volunteer Center is a leader in strengthening the community by connecting people to volunteer service.

The center would like to continue helping others by sharing with readers some of the requests it has received from nonprofit and volunteer groups recently.

Among the current items requested is an LCD Projector (for PowerPoint presentations and videos) and a nearly new desktop computer for an agency providing counseling services to children and adolescents; Big Y coins for Danbury Food Pantry, which they can use to purchase additional items; 12 laptop computers needed for a Danbury economic development program that is establishing a computer lab to assist diverse merchants by providing them with computer instruction to enhance their business practices; and wall mounted magazine rack needed at a literacy education program in Danbury.

The Volunteer Center is currently accepting donations of gift cards for gas, groceries, or household items, which will be appropriately distributed to area social service agencies to fill some of their client needs. These items can be mailed to The Volunteer Center, 58 Division Street, Danbury CT 06810. Gift cards will still be needed in the beginning of the new year, too.

Holiday food items including fresh fruits and vegetables are needed for distribution to clients and their families. Call Interfaith AIDS Ministry at 748-4077 to arrange a donation.

First Night Danbury is in need of volunteers to assist at entertainment venues from 4 to 8 pm on December 31 in Danbury. This is an opportunity to help at an alcohol-free, family celebration. Call 888-588-7880 for details about openings and volunteer opportunities.

For more information about these opportunities and others, The Volunteer Center of Danbury can be reached at 797-1154 or online at VolunteerDanbury.org.
