Chant As Spiritual Practice
Chant As Spiritual Practice
LITCHFIELD â âSongs of the Spirit: Chant as Spiritual Practiceâ will be offered at Wisdom House Retreat and Conference Center from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm on Saturday, February 7.
The practice of chanting is part of many religious rituals. In this experiential workshop, participants will explore chants from different traditions and look at sacred texts and the kinds of music used to chant them. Through carefully guided vocal techniques, participants will begin to free their voices and experience the chant as prayer and practice.
Marguerite Mullee will conduct the program. Dr Mullee is artistic director of Naugatuck Community Choir, music director at Our Lady of Grace Monastery in North Guilford, and former Professor of Music at Holy Apostles College and Seminary in Cromwell. She holds a doctorate in Conducting and Vocal Pedagogy from Columbia University and gives summer chant/singing workshops in Barga, Italy.
The fee is $35 and includes lunch. Each participant may bring a friend for an extra $6 payable at registration.
