Color In January Promises To Brighten Winter

With Original Art

Brighten up th7e days of winter by visiting Color in January Art Show & Sale from Saturday, January 23, through Sunday, January 31. The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will present over 200 paintings at Lexington Gardens, a gift and garden shop at 32 Church Hill Road in Newtown. Show hours are 10 am to 4 pm daily, and the show – and its special events – is free of admission charge.

This annual event showcases original art of nearly 100 artists, all members of SCAN, in oils, watercolors, pastels and graphics.

The opening reception will be Saturday, January 23, from 2 to 4 pm, and the public is invited to join artists for refreshments while viewing the art that has been put on view for this year’s exhibition.

Hour-long artist demonstrations will be offered each Saturday and Sunday during the show beginning at 12:30 pm. Four prize-winning, professional artists will be highlighted this year. Patricia Barkman will demonstrate watercolor landscape on Saturday, January 23, and Janice Papayani will paint an oil still life on Sunday, January 24.

The following weekend, Alain Picard will paint a pastel landscape on Saturday, January 30, and Beverly Branch will paint an acrylic portrait on Sunday, January 31.
