Halloween Events For Kids & Canines

Newtown Parks & Recreation has a pair of events planned for the end of the month, just in time for Halloween’s return.

First up is a Halloween Pizza Party for ages 8 and under on Thursday, October 28, from 4 to 5:30 pm. It will be under and near the pavilion at Dickinson Park, off Elm Drive. In the event of heavy rain call Parks & Rec at 203-270-4340.

Come dressed as your favorite character and get into the Halloween spirit. There will be Halloween games and fun, and the party will conclude with a spooky “Hey Ride.”

Online registration needs to be done by October 26. There is no fee for the party but parents are asked to send one bag of Halloween candy per child, to be distributed to the residents of Main Street in time for Halloween Trick or Treaters just a few nights later.

A Howl-O-Ween Party

Parks & Rec hasn’t forgotten the canine population in Newtown.

Residents are invited to bring their dogs to the Fairfield Hills campus, using the Keating Farms Road entrance, to a Howl-O-Ween Party planed for Saturday, October 30, from 3 to 5 pm.

There will be prizes for the dogs with Best Costume, Scariest Costume, Owner Look-A-Like, and Celebrity Look-Alike. A relay race, treasure hunt, and bobbing for hot dogs will be offered, as will refreshments for dogs and their people.

Requested donation is $10 per dog, which will benefit Park and Bark, Newtown’s future off-leash dog park. For more information about the park visit NewtownParkAndBarn.org. Additional questions about the event can be directed to the Parks & Rec department.
