Education Panel Says State
Should Do More For Students
HARTFORD (AP) â A state-appointed education committee says it has a ten-year plan to help reduce Connecticutâs achievement gap between low-income students and their peers, which it says is the worst in the country.
The Connecticut Commission on Educational Achievement released a report Tuesday suggesting the state adopt higher uniform expectations for students, do more to support and track the progress of low-income students, and hold education officials more accountable for performance.
The group also calls for reform in teacher certification and promotions.
The commission says many of its recommendations call for reallocating resources.
