Dozens Of Safety Violations Found In Truck Inspections

On July 20, town police and state Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) staff conducted a joint commercial truck safety inspection project, which resulted in more than $1,900 in fines.

The inspectors stopped trucks traveling on Wasserman Way, Route 25, and Route 34, directing the drivers to Fairfield Hills where the inspections were performed, police said.

Police said that ten commercial vehicles were inspected and 82 safety violations were found. Eighteen of those violations were serious safety violations.

Five trucks, three trailers, and three drivers were placed out-of-service for serious safety violations, including driving outside of an approved licensing class, no driver record of duty status, inoperable brakes, unsecured load, and inoperable brake lights.

The inspectors issued infractions for 16 violations for a total of $1,918 in fines.

Also, the inspectors issued one misdemeanor summons to one trucker for three violations including driving with a suspended carrier registration, police said.
