Free Performance Of Sullivan Operetta At Easton Library
EASTON â The Friends of the Easton Public Library will present The Da Capo Opera Company of Redding in Sir Arthur Sullivanâs operetta, Cox And Box. A performance will be presented on Sunday, February 6, at 3 pm, in the community room of Easton Library.
Cox And Box is a light-hearted, humorous story about an unscrupulous landlord, known as Bouncer, who rents the same room to two gentlemen: to Mr Cox, a hatter, by day; and to Mr Box, a printer, by night.
The inevitable tangle results when Mr Cox gets a day off â an almost unheard of treat in Victorian England â and returns to find his lodgings occupied by Mr Box. Several other incidents combine to bamboozle the two even more, until Bouncer arrives on the scene to unscramble the confusion.
Area music lovers may remember the Da Capo Opera Company from its masterful performance of Amahl and the Night Visitors a year ago at Easton Public Library.
Under the artistic direction of Bonnie Forgacs, founder of the company, and the stage direction of Lucinda Winslow, Cox And Box stars Paul Phillips, tenor, as Mr Cox; Timothy Throckmorton, tenor, as Mr Box; and Frank Sisson, bass, as Bouncer. Mr Sisson has also written the narration. Jon Hunt will accompany the singers.
The free performance is ideal for young listeners and of course for music lovers of all ages. A reception will follow. Call the Library at 261-0134 or Masha Watson, 372-9586, for more information.
