When your Valentines are doubled,
When your Valentines are doubled,
And your heart begins to pound,
I know that it is hard to keep
All four paws on the ground.
Â
My writing has a backward slant.
Iâm a left-pawed fuzzy feline,
So you mistook my âyâ for ârâ
My sweet ⦠sweet Valentine.
Â
My oh My! Oh My!
Tiger Baby
Sorry, dear Tiger Baby, it wonât happen again. But just so you know that my mix-ups with words arenât the only ones around town, I want to show you this sign that appeared for a while down at Dickinson Park.
Who was to know that âNOâ spelled upside down was âONâ? Too bad the placard at the top didnât say âWOW MOM.â
Newtown resident T.J. McKenzie was on TV Monday night, but he and his teammates from the Rice University menâs basketball team probably wished they werenât. Struggling Rice was pummeled by more than 40 points by an upstart Tulsa team. T.J., who played his high school ball at St Joseph High in Trumbull, is Riceâs 6-10 center. The game was televised on FOX Sports TV (Channel 52).
Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire Company responded to a call on Great Quarter Road last weekend after a woman called to report people ice fishing on the lake. She didnât think it was safe and suggested that firefighters ask the fishermen to leave. Despite the warmer weather this week, the ice on some local ponds and lakes is still nearly 20 inches thick.
A gorilla was reported running along the sidelines at last Friday nightâs boysâ basketball game at Newtown High School. Yup, you guessed it, Rick âSockoâ Mariani was at it again, breaking out one of his old costumes from Sockoâs Haunted Yard.
Itâs always nice to see your hard work pay off. Just ask seventh grade science teacher Ken Royal, a man who is beginning to look like a technological guru to his fellow teachers. Mr Royalâs class is completely computer driven, where his students draft papers and lab reports online, learn side-by-side with students in England and Australia via e-mail, and constantly fine-tune a home page that is as extensive as it is accessible. Now this last comment is not based on my observation so much as the Chicago Academy of Scienceâs, which gave Mr Royalâs science homepage an âAâ for creativity and instruction. Indeed Mr Royalâs Technology Jones is fast becoming the talk of the middle school, as many of his colleagues are lining up outside his door for help in creating their own home pages for their social studies, math and language classes.
Sometimes its seems like the mapmakers just canât keep up with the pace of change. State Rep Julia Wasserman, for whom Mile Hill Road was renamed Wasserman Way in 1998, attended a state Department of Transportation (DOT) informational meeting Monday night at Newtown High School on a DOT planning project on how Interstate-84, its interchanges, and nearby local roads can be improved to enhance regional traffic flow and safety. Mrs Wasserman spied a large aerial photo and map depicting changes which might be made to improve traffic flow in the Exit 11 area. The state representative spotted a flaw in the mapmaking and pointed out to DOT traffic consultant Ruth Bonsignore that the map incorrectly labeled Wasserman Way as Mile Hill Road. The red-faced Ms Bonsignore said the mapmakers will make a revision.
Thatâs the way of the world â everything gets revised in time. So to keep up with all the ever-changing inside story of Newtown, be sure toâ¦
