Democrat Romano Resigns Legislative Council Post
Just two weeks shy of her first year in elected office, District 2 Legislative Council Representative Lisa Romano has tendered her resignation to Town Clerk Debbie Aurelia Halstead and Council Chair Mary Ann Jacob.
In her brief notice, Ms Romano states, “I have made the difficult decision to focus my energies on professional and career commitments as well as projects in the community where I can make an impact.
“It has certainly been an honor to serve in an elected capacity with such a dedicated group,” she continued, “and I have no doubt that we will continue to cross paths around both town and issues of concern to the community.”
Ms Romano, who previously mounted an unsuccessful campaign for the 106th state house office in 2012, won her local seat and began serving the council in December 2013. Ms Jacob responded to a request for comment saying she wishes her departing Democratic colleague “the best of luck.”
According to the Charter, remaining council Democrats Paul Lundquist, Daniel Honan, and Dan Amaral have 30 days to nominate and seat a replacement to complete Ms Romano’s remaining term. If the council Democrats fail to act within 30 days, the remaining members of the council may fill the empty seat with an interim nominee from any party, or an unaffiliated voter.
