*CHARISMA has a show tonight at J.C. Hooks Bar & Grill. This venue is at 550 Chase Avenue in Waterbury (right next to Carmen Anthony’s; telephone 203-755-3632). The six-member band promises live music that will make its audience get up and dance. Showtime is 9:30 pm. Band bios and other details are available at www.geocities.com/CharismaBandCT.

*A benefit concert for the victims of the fire at The Station back in February is being planned at The Webster Theatre in Hartford next weekend. As mentioned last week the show will include sets from national and local acts; this week The Webster’s website is listing DOUBLEDRIVE, STEPHEN PEARCY, GARGANTUA SOUL, BRAND NEW SIN and 6 GIG as participants. The June 29 show is also expected to include an all-star jam with members of CINDERELLA.

Equipment and collectible raffles will also be held and will feature items from ZAKK WYLDE, OZZY and NIGHT RANGER’s BRAD GILLIS, POISON, SOIL, DREAM THEATER, and more. All money collected during the event will be forwarded to The Rhode Island Foundation, to be distributed to Rhode Island charities for the victims.

Check the club’s website, www.WebsterTheater.com or call its box office, 860-525-5553, for details. I’ll add whatever I can to this notice in next week’s column.

*For those of you who, like me, will be out of town the weekend of July 13 and will therefore miss THE BLUE MAN GROUP when it plays the Oakdale Theatre there’s good news this week: The show will be at Mohegan Sun Arena two nights later. Tickets for the July 15 show are $20 and $35, and on sale.

*Tickets for THE BEACH BOYS at Mohegan Sun Arena will be going on sale next Wednesday morning. The perpetual boys of summer will be in Uncasville on August 5; tickets are priced at $33 and $38.50. Contact the arena’s box office by calling 800-200-2882.

*Show dates for MARIAH CAREY’s revamped tour of North America (which has been rearranged to include more intimate venues than her original scheduled was calling for) was released this week and includes a September 12 at the Oakdale Theater in Wallingford. Most shows on this tour, being called The Charmbracelet Tour 2003 – An Intimate Evening,” are going on sale June 21.

According to a press release, Carey is asking fans to help her decide each night’s set list. Fans can vote for their favorites via her official website (www.MariahCarey.com) or her recently launched Honey B. Fly Fan Club (www.monarc.com/MariahCarey/HoneyBFly).

*The music of JUNE CARTER CASH isn’t the genre usually included in this column, but it’s (a) something that I’ve enjoyed and (b) something that’s been influential on generations of music lovers and musicians that I wanted to close this week’s column with the note that Dualtone Records has announced it will be releasing Wildwood Flower, a new album JCC has recorded shortly before her death last month, on September 9. Until next week I’ll be seeing you… on the road.

Questions and comments should be sent to Shannon Hicks c/o The Newtown Bee, 5 Church Hill Road, Newtown, CT 06470, or shannon@thebee.com, or call the office at 426-3141.
