Newtown Scholarship Association

Offers Awards

As the current academic year rapidly comes to a close and graduation approaches, Newtown High School seniors and their families begin to plan for paying for college. The Newtown Scholarship Association, Inc has been helping Newtown families “bridge the gap” financially in order to make college a reality.

Since 1937 the Newtown Scholarship Association has awarded more than $2 million to graduates as well as continuing aid for upperclassmen; $150,000 has been given out each year for the past three years.

Applications are available at the guidance office at the high school. Parents must file a FAFSA (Free Application For Student Aid) and the expected family contribution is considered as well as aid received from the college in determining the amount of the scholarship.

The Newtown Scholarship Association is funded through the generosity of the residents and businesses of Newtown who have consistently responded to its annual appeal letter, participated in its Golf Tournament (scheduled this year for June 21) attended the Christmas Concert and Annual Ball as well as donations of stock, property, bequests in wills and memorials in honor of a deceased family member.

For further information, contact Mark Korotash at 426-9222. Anyone wishing to make contributions can mail them to Newtown Scholarship Association, PO Box 302, Newtown CT 06770.
