Inmate Charged With Assault

State police report that at about 1 am on May 5, Garner Correctional Institution inmate Alfredo Maldonado, 20, assaulted two correction officers during an altercation inside the state’s high-security prison on Nunnawauk Road.

State police said that correction officers Vaughn Willis and Mark Kennedy were injured in the incident.

The state Department of Correction (DOC) called state police to the prison to investigate. State police said they charged Maldonado with assault on a correction officer. Maldonado was slated to be arraigned in Danbury Superior Court later that day.

Before the incident, Maldonado was being held at Garner on $220,000 bail on a pending charge of first-degree sexual assault with a firearm, according to DOC. Maldonado was incarcerated last August.
