NMS Interact Club Raises Money For Charities
The Newtown Middle School Interact Club is a group of seventh and eighth grade students that is sponsored by the Newtown Rotary Club. They have been very busy this past school year doing benefits for various charities.
Interact Club fundraising resulted in donations to the USO, Relay For Life, and Haitian Health Foundation in the amount of $150 each. Shoes were also collected for the people of Haiti. This group also collected aluminum tabs from soda cans, which are sent to the Shriners Hospital in Springfield. Sale of flowers and candies for Valentineâs Day is one of the clubâs best fundraisers.
This year was also the fourth annual Coins For The Cure campaign. The blue-covered cans were placed in the cafeteria; $276.21 was collected. St Rose School also participated in the campaign as well as local businesses that displayed the cans. This campaign was begun in memory of Greg Chion who lost his fight with leukemia in 2000. Greg attended Newtown schools.
The Interact Club members include: Hunter Haubert, Adrina Singer, Bonnie Lumbard, Jacque Rosa, Megan Baylas, Gina Pisacreta, Molly Nostrand, Jack MacKay, Renee Rushefski, and Autumn Ingram who served as president.
