Police report a motor vehicle accident involving two Ford Explorer SUVs on South Main Street, near its northerly intersection with Elm Drive, about 8:07 am on October 4.

Motorist Nikki Delgardo, 18, of Brookfield was driving a 2002 Ford Explorer southward on South Main Street and then stopped for traffic conditions, after which that vehicle was struck from behind by a southbound 2018 Ford Explorer driven by Theresa Roland, 42, of O'Fallon, Mo., police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Roland for following too closely.

Stolen Vehicle

Police learned on the morning of September 30 that someone overnight had stolen a motor vehicle that had been parked near a residence near the intersection of Schoolhouse Hill Road and Hanover Road. Police did not provide any description of the missing vehicle. Police said that the vehicle had been left unlocked and that its automatic ignition device had been left inside the vehicle, thus simplifying its theft. Police are investigating and ask anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact them at the police station at 203-426-5841, regarding police Case #2017-19307.

Criminal Charges

Police report that at about 10:10 pm on September 30, they stopped a motorist near the intersection of Mt Pleasant Road and Saw Mill Road in Hawleyville for a traffic violation.

Motorist Eugene Mastriani, 49, of Danbury initially attempted to use a false name to identify himself. After investigating, police charged Mastriani with interfering with police, misuse of a marker plate, and failure to drive to the right. A records check indicated that there were multiple pending warrants against Mastriani, according to police.

Police additionally charged Mastriani with second-degree failure to appear in court and with three counts of violation of probation. Police held Mastriani on $77,000 bail for an arraignment on the seven charges on October 2 in state Superior Court in Danbury. In court, Mastriani did not enter pleas to the vehicular charges. A judge lowered his bail to $56,500. Mastriani was being held on October 3 at Bridgeport Correctional Center for an October 16 court appearance.

Sandy Hook Collision

A two-vehicle accident occurred on eastbound Church Hill Road near its intersection with Ardi Court in Sandy Hook Center about 7:32 am on September 29.

Motorist Briana Castellano, 17, of Newtown, who was driving 2006 Jeep Liberty SUV, stopped for traffic conditions, and was then struck from behind by motorist Sydney Marino, 17, of Newtown, who was driving a 2012 Jeep Wrangler SUV, police said.

There were no injuries. Police report they verbally warned Marino for following too closely.

Botsford Crash

A two-vehicle collision occurred on southbound South Main Street, near its intersection with Cold Spring Road, about 8:25 am on September 28.

Police report that motorist Katelyn Vrabel, 27, of Newtown was driving a 2012 Ford Fusion in the left southbound lane, as driver Jeffrey Brundage, 58, of Southbury was driving a Kenworth tractor-trailer truck in the right southbound lane. In the area near the top of a hill, where those two lanes merge into one lane, the Ford struck the Kenworth, police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Vrabel for improper passing.

South Main Collision

Motorist Diane Sullivan, 59, of South Britain, who was driving a 2013 Subaru Forester SUV northward on South Main Street at about 3:57 pm on September 29, stopped and was waiting to make a left turn to enter the driveway for Amaral Motors at 40 South Main Street, when a northbound 2011 Honda Accord driven by Rosemarie Fattibene, 76, of Sandy Hook, struck the rear end of the Subaru, police said.

The Honda then continued traveling northward, leaving the scene of the accident, police said. Sullivan was checked at the scene for pain by the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps, but declined transport, police said. Police said they issued Fattibene an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart. Police said they verbally warned Sullivan for driving an unregistered vehicle.

Off-Ramp Mishap

State police said that motorist Sheila D'Angelo, 46, of Danbury, who was driving a 2012 Subaru Forester SUV on the Exit 9 off-ramp for eastbound Interstate 84 at about 8:06 am on September 27, stopped at a stop sign at the end of the ramp. Motorist Samantha Mannion, 50, of New Fairfield, who was driving a 2010 Acura MDX SUV, then stopped behind the Subaru. The Acura then moved forward and struck the Subaru, according to state police. There were no injuries. Mannion received a written warning for following too closely.

Interstate Crash

At about 8:30 am on September 27, motorist Kelley Braccia, 46, of Southbury, who was driving a Toyota Highlander SUV westward on Interstate 84, just west of Exit 10, slowed to a stop for stop-and-go traffic conditions, after which the Toyota was struck from behind by a 2016 Chevrolet Sonic driven by Alexander Niatopsky, 18, of Wolcott, state police said.

There were no injuries. Niatopsky received an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Lane Change

About 11:17 am on September 26, motorist Carmen Marchetti, 73, of Ellicott City, Md., who was driving a 2013 Honda Accord on westbound Interstate 84, east of Exit 11, attempted to change travel lanes, but struck a 2014 Cadillac CTS sedan driven by Audrey Aledort, 55, of Brookfield, state police said.

There were no injuries. State police verbally warned Marchetti for making an unsafe lane change.

Highway Accident

A two-vehicle collision occurred on the section of eastbound Interstate 84 lying between the off-ramp and the on-ramp for Exit 11 at about 7:45 am on September 25.

In that incident, motorist Idaliz Davila, 20, of Waterbury, who was driving a 2005 Ford Focus, attempted to merge from the right lane to the center lane, but in doing so the Ford struck a 2015 Honda Accord driven by Johanna Sanchez, 25, of Danbury, state police said.

There were no injuries. State police warned Davila for making an unsafe lane change.

Cadillac Vs Mercedes

State police report that motorist Taghrid Chartouni of Southbury, who was driving a 2013 Mercdes-Benz ML-350 SUV westward on Interstate 84, west of Exit 9, about 4:14 pm on September 25, stopped for some stopped traffic up ahead on the roadway and was then struck from behind by a 2007 Cadillac Escalade SUV driven by Stephanie Maker of Newtown. There were no injuries. State police verbally warned Maker for following too closely.
