Senior Blue Team Competes

The Newtown Senior Blue boys’ lacrosse team competed in the CONNY Tournament’s Brown Division this past weekend. Game results are as follows:

Senior Blue 7, Darien 2: Newtown’s Mark Urso scored the first goal by getting control off a faceoff position win, running down the field and finding the net only five seconds into the game. That set the tone for the day and Newtown Blue never looked back. Five different players scored in this game at Yale University. Tommy Elliott, James Accousti, Jake Lapp, and Nikhil Wadhwa each scored one goal. Mark Urso led all scorers with three goals on nine attempts. Ground balls were picked up by every team member, and Elliott’s 6 and Urso’s 8 led the way. Aggressive defensive play from Nick Samuelson and Carlo Fenaroli helped stop Darien’s attackmen. George Salaris was a force in goal with eight saves.

New Milford 13, Newtown Senior Blue 4: The second game proved to be too  much for the tired and hurt Blue squad. Early injuries didn’t help. New Milford was relentless with 41 shots on goal keeping George Salaris busy with 14 saves. Salaris also led the Blue team with 6 ground balls. Chance McMahon and Mark Urso each added 4 ground balls. The scoring came from Shawn McCarthy and Mark Urso, each with two goals. Another bright spot of the weekend was Urso’s dominant faceoff performance as he got 13 of 19 possessions.
