Say It Ain’t Snow

Mother Nature’s encore to Superstorm Sandy was an early snowfall. Nearly half a foot of snow fell November 7, blanketing area playing fields. The result was November 8 state tournament games getting pushed back a day.

Newtown High School’s boys’ soccer team, originally slated to begin tournament action at Blue & Gold Stadium on November 8, had its game moved to the next day, and over to Treadwell Park because the NHS girls’ soccer team was already scheduled to play on November 9. The snow melted, allowing for the schedules to resume.

The boys’ soccer team, after beating Cheshire on a cool day in the first round on November 9, won a Sunday afternoon second-round game at Wilton in unseasonably warm conditions.

The NHS field hockey team had its qualifying round game pushed back a day as well.
