A New Tradition—

Family Concerts Over The Holiday Weekend

SHERMAN — Thanksgiving is perhaps the quintessential family holiday, as generations gather together from far and wide for turkey and pie, football games, and walks in the brisk autumn air. Add a new tradition to your holiday weekend this year as Sherman Chamber Ensemble invites your family to join theirs for a musical feast on Saturday, November 25, at 4 pm, at Sherman Congregational Church, and on Sunday, November 26, at 3 pm, at St Andrew’s Church in Kent.

Admission is free – a little holiday gift from SCE to the communities that have supported its musical activities so enthusiastically over the years. All ages are welcome, so gather the kids and the grandparents and join SCE for a smorgasbord of musical offerings sure to please everyone.

There will be chamber music gems from the likes of Haydn, Beethoven and Handel. Those with a taste for the classics of the popular repertoire can look forward to treats by George Gershwin and others.

Fans of the ensemble’s popular children’s concerts will enjoy the informal atmosphere and the opportunities for the audience to get involved. Concertgoers of all generations will find something familiar and something new and exciting to tickle their musical palates.

The family of musicians gathered for the Thanksgiving weekend concerts includes husband-and-wife team and SCE co-founders Eliot Bailen on cello and Susan Rotholz on flute. They will be joined by baritone Richard Lalli and painist William Braun, both Connecticut residents and accomplished performers and teachers active throughout the region.

An informal reception with light refreshments will follow each concert. Admission is free, thanks to the support of the Connecticut Commission on the Arts (donations will also be gratefully accepted at the door.) For further information, contact Sherman Chamber Ensemble at 860/355-6155.
