SCAN Artist Demo: Kathy Anderson, April 13

The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will host an oil painting demonstration by nationally known artist Kathy Anderson on Wednesday, April 13. The program will begin at 7:30 pm and will take place in the lower room of Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street (at the flagpole).Plein Air Magazine.

The public is invited. There is no charge.

Kathy Anderson is best known for her garden landscapes and floral still life, although she is well versed in many other subjects. In 2001, she had the good fortune to meet renowned artist Richard Schmid when he purchased one of her paintings. The meeting resulted in her being invited to join the Putney Painters under Schmid's tutelage.

For the past 15 years she has traveled to Vermont several times a month to paint with Mr Schmid, along with Nancy Guzik, and her fellow Putney Painters.

Ms Anderson now passes the knowledge she has gained from this long association and friendship to the many students she has taught in workshops throughout the country.

This year she is once again on the staff at the Plein Air Convention in Tucson, Ariz., hosted by

'Ms Anderson is a signature member of OPA, Allied Artists, Rocky Mountain Plein Air Painters, and is an artist member of the Salmagundi Club in New York City, and the National Arts Club, New York.

She is represented by Susan Powell Fine Art in Madison (Conn.); Legacy Gallery in Scottsdale, Ariz., and Jackson Wyo.; Westwind Fine Art, Colorado Springs; Trees Place, Cape Cod; and Pierce Gallery, Nantucket, where she is having a two person show this July.

"Red Roses and Wedgewood" is a perfect example of the floral landscape style that has brought ac-claim to the artist Kathy Anderson, who will be a special guest of SCAN on Wednesday, April 13.
