The Newtown Women's Slo-Pitch Softball League was heading into the final round of its playoffs this week (barring inclement weather) while the Newtown Men's Sunday Slo-Pitch League is still trying to catch up from all its rainouts.

The Newtown Women’s Slo-Pitch Softball League was heading into the final round of its playoffs this week (barring inclement weather) while the Newtown Men’s Sunday Slo-Pitch League is still trying to catch up from all its rainouts.

The women –

Beeline Woodworking defeated Fireside Inn, 17-5, to remain undefeated at 11-0. Nancy Bowen had three hits (including two doubles) while Eileen Frattaroli was 4-for-4 with two doubles and a triple to spark the offense. June Frost added a single and a double while Sue Ormsbee singled twice. Maryann Fisher pitched well.

3-D Homes defeated Davidson Insurance, 13-11, in extra innings. For 3-D Homes, Sandy Doski got on base all four times at bat while Charlotte DuBail drove in key runs in the first and eighth innings.  DuBail finished the night with a triple, single and walk. Meanwhile, Carolyn Bernardi had a double and single while Caitlyn Elf, Aimee Richards and Gwenann Reid all went 2-for-3. Sandra Grenier and Karen Katrinak, went 3-for-4 and Bev Maley had a crucial walk to score a run for 3-D.

Newtown Exxon smashed Hot Shots, 22-6, as Lisa Casella and Lori Mathison each went 3-for-3. Melissa Kopcik scored three times and pitched well. For Hot Shots, Carol Strong collected a couple of hits to spark the offense. Stephanie Pinto and Lindsey Goodwick made some nice catches in the field and Peg Powers turned a couple of nice double plays with Ann Rushefski.

Newtown Exxon defeated Hot Shots, 16-9, as Lori Mathison homered and Cathy Piccini doubled. Melissa Kopcik tripled and Maura Strokis singled twice. For Hot Shots, Ann Rushefski pitched well, Liz Kiley scored two runs, and Lindsey Goodwick and Peg Bowers made many great catches in the field.

Curtiss & Crandon clobbered Firehouse Eatery, 15-2, as Diane Alicea went 4-for-4 with a homer and two RBI. Martha Decker was 4-for-4 with a double and Missy Desrochers banged out two doubles and drove in two runs. Diane Lawrence and Lynn Baylis led the defense.

Curtiss & Crandon also defeated Fireside, 13-4, as Diane Alicea went 4-for-4 with a grand slam. Patrice Fahey homered and Marge Golankiewicz was 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles. Jen Van Epps played well in the field.

The men –

At Treadwell Park this Sunday, Porco Construction will battle Botsford Drive In at 9:15 am; Porco Construction will then take on Hurd Construction at 10:45 am; and Southbury Printing will face Botsford Drive In at 12:15 pm.

At Dickinson Park, Greenleaf Tree Service will square off against G&H Tools at 9:15 am; Greenleaf Tree Service will battle Thompsonville Furniture at 10:45 am; and Thompsonville Furniture will face G&H Tools at 12:15 pm.
