Newtown Artists In CWA Show
FAIRFIELD â Four members of The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) were among the 56 artists accepted from 256 entries into the 75th Annual Exhibition of Connecticut Women Artists, currently on view at the Thomas J. Walsh Art Gallery at Fairfield University.
The exhibition features works in a variety of media. It was curated by Joanne Marsh, the curator of contemporary art for Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art in Hartford.
SCAN members accepted into the show were Janice Baragwanath, Barbara Madden, Ruth Newquist and Virginia Zic. Ms Newquist and Ms Zic are both residents of Newtown.
Founded in 1929 by 13 women artists exhibiting at the Wadsworth, CWA provides a forum for womenâs artwork and emphasizes the value of art in society. The organization has 200 members and offers an open juried show and a membersâ juried show each year at galleries in the state. The New Britain Museum of American Art, The Lyman Allyn Museum in New Britain and the John Slade Ely House in New Haven have hosted past exhibitions.
Admission to the exhibit is free and open to the public. The Walsh Art Gallery is within the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts, on the campus of Fairfield University. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 11 am to 5 pm, and Sunday from noon to 4 pm.
