14th Annual TGIF Focuses

 On Quality Of Life

SOUTHBURY — “Thank God I’m Female (TGIF)”, the popular women’s wellness forum hosted by Waterbury Hospital, will take place at the Southbury Hilton on Friday, May 6, from 4:30 pm to 10 pm. A buffet dinner will be served.

Tickets are $30 each and can be reserved by calling 203-573-7587. The top sponsors for this year’s event include Diagnostic Radiology Associates, Home Care Professionals and Novartis Pharmaceuticals.

The theme of the 14th annual forum, “It’s All about Quality of Life,” builds on TGIF’s purpose of providing expert information to keep women up-to-date on wellness issues. Participants will have the opportunity to attend two workshops, selecting from topics that include genetic testing; midlife women and sleep; managing the “leaks of life;” life-planning for aging parents; an innovative alternative to hysterectomy, and understanding and preventing heart disease in women.

A dinner buffet and sponsor showcase will precede the keynote address by actress Marcia Wallace, best known for her roles as Carol Kester on The Bob Newhart Show and Bart’s teacher on The Simpsons. Ms Wallace’s latest book is Don’t Look Back, We’re Not Going That Way, a frank and funny look at Ms Wallace’s own encounters with aging, breast cancer recovery, “menopausal motherhood” and other life challenges. Copies of the book will be available for signing by the author.

Since 1991, TGIF has served as the region’s signature health and wellness program for area women, who come together for an evening of learning and socializing. “We’re pleased to present our area experts on these important topics in a comfortable, nonthreatening environment where women can truly enjoy themselves while gaining a better understanding of how to optimize their best years,” said Sheila Hogan, chief fund development officer and director of community relations and marketing at Waterbury Hospital.
