AARP Offering Free Tax Counseling

The AARP Connecticut Tax-Aide program is offering free tax counseling and preparation until April 15 in most Connecticut communities.

Tax counselors are volunteers certified by the IRS. They will help at no cost.

Appointments are usually needed, and those seeking help will need to bring their 2005 tax return and any pertinent papers.

To find a Tax-Aide site, call toll-free at 888-227-7699 or visit www.aarp.org/ct.

Most towns are hosting the Tax-Aides in their library or senior center. Newtown Senior Center, within the multipurpose building on Riverside Road in Sandy Hook, has representatives on hand each Monday between 9 am and noon. Call 270-4310 for additional information or an appointment.

Tax-Aide is administered by the AARP Foundation in cooperation with the IRS.
