A Treat For Main Street Residents
A Treat For Main Street Residents
Main Street resident Miriam Rhyins is once again organizing the collection of individually wrapped candy and treats to support her neighbors on Main Street on Halloween. Newtown homeowners who live on Main Street generally greet up to 3,000 trick-or-treaters, and with the spooky holiday falling on a Saturday this year, Ms Rhyins said that she would not be surprised to see the number of little ghosts and goblins visiting to reach an all-time high. âIt will be fairly insane, I think,â said Ms Rhyins, âbut thatâs what itâs all about. I love it,â she added.
Donation boxes are located at CVS, the Big Y, and Caraluzziâs on Queen Street, Stop & Shop in the Sand Hill Plaza, and at the C.H. Booth Library on Main Street. Donations of candy may also be dropped off in the box on the front porch at the Rhyinsâ residence at 54 Main Street. Candy donations will be accepted until October 30, when the Rhyins, friends, and volunteers will distribute the candy to homeowners on Main Street.
Last year, more than 13,000 pieces of candy was distributed to the Main Street residents, said Ms Rhyins. Volunteers are welcome to assist. Call 426-1025 if you are available to help hand out the collected treats on October 30.
