Newtown High School Swimmers Downed 99-85 By Pomperaug
Newtown High Schoolâs boysâ swimming and diving team kept things close but fell short to unbeaten and always-dominant Pomperaug in Southbury, 99-85 on Tuesday afternoon.
Newtownâs 200-yard freestyle relay team of Luke Fiore, Kyle OâConnor, Dan Hufziger and Abben Hung won first place in a time of 1:34.98.
Hung took first in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:07.35, Conor Donnelly was first in the 200 individual medley in 2:13.83, Matt Iassogna won the 100 yard butterfly in a time of 59.71, and Fiore won the 100 free in 50.38.
Newtown also had several second-place finishers. The 400 free relay team of Fiore, Iassogna, OâConnor and Donnelly was second in a time of 3:41.95. The 200 medley relay group of Donnelly, Nick Lafky, OâConnor and Patrick Milano was second in a time of 1:56.60. Fiore placed second in the 200 free in a time of 1:51.18. Hufziger was runner-up in the 50 free in 23.10.
The Nighthawks will take on the Joel Barlow-Immaculate co-op in Oxford on January 26 and return home to face Weston at 4 pm on February 9.
