Legislative Council Candidate: Why I Am Running
Legislative Council Candidate:
Why I Am Running
To the Editor:
It is with great honor that I accept the nomination of the Newtown Democratic Party to run for the Legislative Council for District 2. I am a lifelong resident of Main Street, Newtown, and a graduate of Newtown High School. Throughout my life, I have served Newtown in many ways: I volunteered as a Hook and Ladder fireman for 17 years, stood as a past member and chairman of the Newtown Board of Fire Commissioners, and I am currently serving as Newtownâs representative on the Board of Directors of Housatonic Regional Transit (HART). Additionally, for many years I have been actively involved in community service conducted through my longtime membership in the Newtown Rotary Club.
Aside from my public service, many of you know me on a more personal level because I have served your family â and in many cases multiple generations of families â in my position as funeral director of the Honan Funeral Home. I pledge to serve on the Legislative Council in the same dignified, courteous manner that I conduct my business. I will be attentive and responsive to all the people of Newtown â whether you have children in our schools or are a retired senior citizen, whether you have lived in town for years or youâre just finding a new place to call home. I understand that serving on the Legislative Council takes much more than attending the twice monthly meetings â it involves working with all members of the council no matter what political party, to build consensus on the many issues Newtown faces today. I look forward to the opportunity to serve Newtown in this manner.
Sincerely,
Daniel T. Honan
