Winners Announced For 2009 Labor Day Parade

Members of the 48th Annual Newtown Labor Day Parade Committee — Beth Caldwell, Steve Bigham, Dan Cruson, Kym Stendahl, Kelly Stendahl, Robin Buchanan, Brian Amey, Diana Baxter, Mona Steele, Connie Widmann, and Ann Marie DeWeese — are pleased to announce the winners for this year’s parade entries.

The winners were selected by votes from judges Ann Benore, Sheila Cole, Monica Duhanick, Ann Mazur, Shirley Paproski, and Renee Weimann.

First Place for Best Musical Entry, Senior Division was awarded to the Connecticut Alumni Drum & Bugle Corps. Runner Up went to the Connecticut Rebels of ’76 Fife & Drum.

Best Musical Entry, Junior Division, First Place went to the Sons of Portugal Band.

Best Float was won by Dr Joshua E. Baum Orthodontics. Trinity Episcopal Church captured the Runner Up in this category.

Newtown Hook & Ladder Company placed first for Best Fire Company.

Best Non-Musical entry was won by Vasi’s International Gymnastics. The Pyramid Shriners Motor Patrol took Runner Up.

Middle Gate School was awarded First Place for Best School.

The Legends and Pioneers Award this year went to Miss Lathrop’s School of Dance.

Last, but not least, the sought-after Rooster Award was given to the Connecticut Alumni Drum & Bugle Corps.
