HARTFORD â The Northeast Organic Farming Association of Connecticut (NOFA/CT) will hold its End of Winter Conference on Saturday, March 4, at the Unitarian Society of Hartford, 50 Bloomfield Avenue, from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.
Farmer and activist Elizabeth Henderson will speak on âOrganic Farming At Home and Abroad.â Ms Henderson is the author of Sharing the Harvest, a book about community supported agriculture. Several workshop tracks will provide expert information on farming and gardening, organic land care, using locally grown food and herbs, and community organizing for positive change.
A special presentation dealing with the impact of biotechnology on the food supply will be given by Kimberly Wilson of the Council for Responsible Genetics. Her workshop, âGenetically Engineered Food: Changing the Nature of Nature,â will cover the environmental and human health effects of genetically engineered food, and developments at the local, national and international level to prohibit, regulate or label genetically engineered food.
Throughout the day conference-goers will have the opportunity to visit a wide variety of exhibits and a farmers market. There will be a pot-luck luncheon with live music, and child care will be provided with advance registration.
