Occupation: I was formerly a librarian. I attended the University of South Alabama. In those days you could take a test and be certified as a librarian. I worked in a university library, the public library in Mobile, Ala., and at a private elementary school with an international clientele.
How Long in Newtown: I have lived in Newtown for five years. Prior to this, I lived in Upper Arlington, Ohio. I was born in Chicago and grew up in the south, but I always missed the change of seasons.
Biggest Change Seen in Town: All of these new houses springing up. They werenât here when I came here. It is a charming and beautiful town. I hope it wonât be ruined by overbuilding.
Family: My husband, Hugh, and I have been married for 38 years. We have a son, Andrew, 25, who recently worked as an archaeolgist at the Weir Farm in Ridgefield.
Pets: We have a Jack Russell, Spock, who is 14 years old.
Hobbies: I sing with the Connecticut Master Chorale and in the choir at St Mary Church in Bethel. I have also sung with the Connecticut Choral Society and the Waterbury Chorale. I went to Turkey last summer with the Waterbury Chorale. We performed four concerts in Turkey and toured the country. Last fall I sang La Traviata with the Nutmeg Opera in Danbury. It was a lot of fun, but it was scary. We had to memorize it all. I like to travel. I enjoy gardening and doing needlepoint and cross-stitch. I also collect antique majolica and hand-carved birds. I also used to ride horseback. I moved here with a horse, and someone said you have to live in Newtown if you have a horse.
Favorite Books and Authors: I like to read all sorts of things, especially well-written fiction. I read across the gamut, however, biographies, history, and non-fiction. I love classical literature, and keep childrenâs books for when kids come to visit so they will have something to read. I just love books.
Favorite TV Show: I donât watch a lot of TV, but Iâm a news junkie. I watch PBS and enjoy the CBS Sunday Morning Show because of the music.
Organizations: I am a member of the Garden Club of Newtown. I have been its publicity chairman for several years. I also am a member of the group that mends books for the C.H. Booth   Library.
Most Vivid Memory of Newtown: When I think of Newtown, I think of the first time I drove on Main Street with its beautiful houses and the flagpole. That will always be Newtown to me. I get so excited when people come to visit so I can drive them around to see the town. I truly enjoy living here.
Favorite Vacation Spot: I like to travel anywhere. In addition to Turkey, Iâve been to Norway and Sweden. My husband and I love to go in the spring to Crooked Island in the Bahamas. When we were there last, it had no power or telephones. We lived in Germany, and that gave me a taste to see the world.
Personal Philosophy: I think that all of us are enriched by the diversity of cultures and ideas that surround us, and I guess I want to absorb as much of that as I can from everyone.
