Carrie Swan Installed As President Of Newtown Rotary

The Rotary Club of Newtown recently held its annual “Pass the Gavel” celebration, where the club’s members, spouses, and guests enjoyed a delightful evening at Mona Lisa Restaurant to celebrate the successes of the previous year, and to install the new officers and directors of the club for the coming year. On hand to perform the installation ceremony was Rotary past district governor Colin Gershon, assisted by outgoing president Bill Calderara, who presented the ceremonial gavel to new president Carrie Swan.

Ms Swan’s cabinet includes the following officers: Pat Caruso, president-elect; Mike Toll, vice president; Duane Giannini, secretary; Joe Tarshis, treasurer; and Mike Snyder, sergeant-at-arms. The directors are Mary Griffin, membership; Alan Clavette, club administration; Larry Gardner, public relations; Brian Amey, Rotary Foundation; Christopher Hoeffel, director at large; Gary Steele, director at large; and Bill Calderara, past president.

The club’s Frank Miles Award, which recognizes the club member whose actions during the past year best exemplify the Rotary motto “Service Above Self,” was presented to Dr Robert Grossman. This was a special award this year, as it also recognized Dr Grossman’s 50th year as a member of Newtown Rotary.

Rotary District Governor-elect Julianne Reppenhagen was on hand to recognize the following Rotarians with the Paul Harris Fellow award: Paul Gehrett, Mike Snyder, Dan Honan, and Bill Calderara. Additionally, on occasion, the Rotary Club of Newtown will recognize, with this award, other members of the greater Newtown community who are not Rotarians. The Rotary Club of Newtown was pleased to declare Annie Orr a Paul Harris Fellow for her outstanding volunteer efforts to feed those who are less fortunate at the Dorothy Day Hospitality House in Danbury.

The Rotary Club of Newtown meets every Monday evening at 6 pm, at The Inn at Newtown. Anyone interested in learning more about the club should contact Ms Swan at 203-426-1230, or visit the club’s website at NewtownCTRotary.org.
