Newtown Rotary Golf Tourney A Hit

The Newtown Rotary Club recently held its Jim Osborne Memorial Golf Classic at Tashua Knolls Golf Course in Trumbull under beautiful late summer skies. The annual fundraising event is named in honor of the late Jim Osborne, who was an active member of the Rotary Club for many years as well as a distinguished citizen of Newtown.

The winning foursome with the lowest team score in the best ball tournament included Steve Haberstroh, Adam Bajko, James Pascarella, and John Barton III.

“The golf tournament is the Rotary Club’s biggest fundraiser each year,” Rotary Club President Carrie Swan said. “And we are happy to report that we met and surpassed by a few dollars our $50,000 goal, and we had fun doing it. The proceeds from the golf tournament will go entirely to supporting the Rotary Club’s humanitarian efforts in the greater Newtown community as well as various international humanitarian projects.”

Gary Steele, chairman of the golf tournament, stated: “We had tremendous support for the event with over 100 golfers playing and dozens of sponsors helping to make the event such a great success. We are especially grateful to our platinum and gold sponsors … the their most generous support.” The sponsors are The Dock, Inc., Newtown Savings Bank, Delmar Electrical Contractors, and Buick GMC of Danbury.

The Newtown Rotary Club is comprised of men and women who are in business and professions in the local community. Their efforts and belief in the concept of “Service Above Self” provide support for many organizations and individuals to have a better life. Newtown Rotary meets every Monday at 6 pm at The Inn at Newtown. For more information, contact Carrie Swan at 203-426-1230 or visit the club’s website at www.newtownctrotary.org.
