Disaster Doctor To Speak At

Lions Pancake Breakfast

Dr Daniel Wollman, a Newtown resident who works in New York City, will be discussing his expreriences as a volunteer doctor at a triange center at the World Trade Center when the Newtown Lions Club holds a pancake breakfast on Saturday, November 17, at the Newtown United Methodist Church on Church Hill Road in Sandy Hook. The breakfast will  benefit the victims of the September 11 disaster.

The fundraising breakfast will be held from 8 am to 1 pm. Dr Wollman will be speaking at 10 am.

The breakfast will feature pancakes, sausage, applesauce, juice, coffee, tea, milk, and hot cocoa.

Tickets are $5 for adults, $2 for children ages 12 and under; no charge for children under the age of two. Tickets are available at the door or from Lions Club members.

The United Way has been earmarked to receive the funds raised because of its focus on immediate as well as long-term needs of victims and communities. According to the United Way, the agency has passed on 100 percent of the money it has received, with no administrative costs, to the 72 agencies with which the United Way works.  Through these agencies cash assistance, legal help, and grief counseling has been provided to the victims’ families.

Although much help has already been given, there is still much more to do, according to United Way officials.

“At our local level, we hope to have a good turnout and thus to do our part in helping the victims’ families of this terrible happening,” said Paul Arneth, co-chair with John Christensen of the pancake breakfast.  Committee members include Tony Ratzing, Ken Hostetler, Oscar Siller, Dr Joseph Young, Jim Manville, and Skip Sims.
