Sales Tax

Free Week

HARTFORD –– Lt Gov M. Jodi Rell reminded state residents, parents of school children, and summer tourists that the state of Connecticut will hold its final “Sales Tax Free Week” from Sunday, August 17, to Saturday, August 23.

Clothing and footwear items costing less than $300 will be exempt from the sales tax during that week. Normally all clothing and footwear costing more than $50 is taxed at the six percent sales tax rate. It is estimate that the state will forfeit $3.3 million in sales tax revenues during the week. In the recently approved state budget, future sales tax weeks have been repealed.

“With many families planning back-to-school shopping, I urge them to purchase their clothes and shoes during the week of August 17 to save on the sales tax and benefit from in-store specials,” Lt Gov Rell said.
