Scholarship Winner
Alyssa Scalora, a 2004 graduate of Newtown High School, was among this yearâs recipients of the Macricostas Family Scholarship Foundation, honoring âdeservingâ students whose parents are employed by Photronics, Inc.
The foundation, established in 1997 with an initial endowment of $500,000 by Photronics chairman and founder Constantine Macricostas, has awarded more than $340,000 in scholarships since its inception.
Mr Macricostas believes that education is the most important tool to equip young people for the future. âEducation enabled me to achieve a level of success I would have thought unimaginable,â he said. âIt is the key that unlocks every individualâs potential and without it we are limited. These young people are the hope of our society and our civilization and this foundation is proud to offer this assistance to them.â
Alyssa is an honors student and a member of the Newtown High School Marching Band. Among her marching band accomplishments is earning a varsity letter in Winter Guard. She plans to major in education this fall at Western Connecticut State University in Danbury.
Alyssaâs father, Vic Scalora, is an optical lead technician at Photronicsâ facility in Brookfield.
