I grew up in St James, Long Island, N.Y., and attended local schools. I received a masterâs in business administration from Dowling College in Long Island, and my law degree from New York University. I received a masterâs in tax law from Quinnipiac University.
How Long In Newtown: We have lived here on Miya Lane in Sandy Hook four years now, and soon weâll be moving into town off Jeremiah Road to have more space for our growing family.
Biggest Change You Have Seen In Town: It has definitely become more congested but this is nothing compared to Long Island. Itâs all relative. I do notice the big new neighborhoods going in like the one at Toddy Hill Road. I think the town is pretty vocal about controlling growth and preserving open space land, which is good.
Family: My wife Jennifer and I have three sons. They are Kevin, 6, who will going into the first grade at Sandy Hook School, John, 4, who is at St Rose preschool, and Aidan, who is 21 months.
Hobbies: I like to play racquetball at the Brookfield Y, golf in work leagues with my friends, and I play ice hockey in a league in Brewster. I also coach my kidsâ soccer teams. My wife says Iâm handy around the house. Iâve remodeled the basement and I landscaped the front walk.
Favorite TV Show, Movie, Book: After a day at work spent reading briefs and papers, I donât read much in the evenings. Iâm a big fan of the TV shows 24, Law and Order, and CSI.
Organizations: For a while, we belonged to the Dining Out Club and when we get a chance to have a sitter and go out, we like to eat out so we have a chance to talk and laugh. We belonged to Newtown Newcomersâ Club for our first two years here. They are a great organization.
I belong to the Connecticut Bar Association and late this winter, I helped out for several Saturdays at the libraryâs VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) sessions and enjoyed it a lot.
Our family belongs to St Rose Church.
Most Vivid Memory About Newtown: I think the circumstances under which we moved here were rather memorable, at least in my life they were. We had been living in Westchester County and wanted to move to a town similar to the Long Island town where I grew up. A friend told us about Newtown and we looked at a lot of houses but at first, didnât find anything. This was in 2000. We had already sold our Westchester house and had to move, so we were living with my wifeâs parents ââ all four of us âsleepingâ in one room including a brand new baby. Actually, nobody was getting any sleep. I remember the baby was born on a Thursday, and on the following Sunday, which happened to be Fatherâs Day, I went out again to look for a house. My wife said, âDonât come back until youâve found one.â I saw two houses and bought the second one I looked at. Weâve been very happy here. Itâs a welcoming community.
Favorite Vacation Spot: We love to take the kids to Disney World. I must have been there 12 times. We also go to the Cape, to Falmouth or Dennis.
Personal Philosophy: I enjoy solving problems, helping people, and giving back. But I also pretty much like to fly under the radar and keep a low profile. I also believe in the virtues of physical work.
