Native Plant Studies
For Connecticut Residents
NEW HAVEN â Until recently, people wanted to learn more about native plant gardening or the botany of Connecticutâs natural areas had to enroll in a university or travel to New England Wild Flower Societyâs (NEWFS) headquarters at Garden in the Woods in Framingham, Mass. NEWFS announces that these learning opportunities are now much closer to Connecticut.
The Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History in New Haven is collaborating to co-sponsor a series of NEWFS programs for both beginning and advanced plant and natural history enthusiasts. Connecticut residents can now participate locally in Americaâs most extensive native plant education program as part of more than 275 courses, trips, and events held year-round throughout New England.Â
The societyâs fee-based courses required advance registration and free programs are on a first-come basis, with no reservations required. Society members receive substantial discounts, and the public is invited to purchase membership online and visit www.newenglandwildflower.org for updated course lists, certificate program information, locations, and fees. Contact registrar@newfs.org or phone 508-877-7630.
As a special highlight, in collaboration with Yale Peabody Museumâs Landscape Under Siege exhibition on invasive plants, a free gallery talk is offered on May 12 at 170 Whitney Avenue in New Haven by Christopher Mattrick, renowned invasive plant expert of New England Wild Flower Society.
