Next Thursday At The Bent—

Wind Over Wings Live Bird Demonstration

SOUTHBURY –– Before the kids go back to school and evenings are given over to homework, gather the family and head for Southbury hills to see live hawks and owls as demonstrated by renowned bird rehabilitator and raptor expert Hope Douglas.

The Lillinonah Audubon Society will present Wind Over Wings on Thursday evening, August 25, at the Education Barn at Bent of the River Audubon Center. Ms Douglas will discuss the mysteries of flight, and explain how these magnificent birds would survive in the wild.

This is a fascinating program for all ages, especially for those interested in the annual autumn hawk migration that begins in September. In just a few weeks, many species of raptors may be seen high in the Connecticut skies as they fly south to wintering grounds in Central and South America.

The program will begin at 7:30 pm with refreshments served at the Education Barn. The demonstration and talk begins at 8 pm.

The Audubon Center is located on East Flat Hill Road in South Britain and is found by taking Exit 14 off I-84 and following Route 172 into South Britain. Follow signs. The public is invited, and there is no charge.

Visitors should park in the lower lot near the kiosk and walk up the road to the barn. Please bring flashlights for the walk back to the parking lot. Bring a picnic supper and enjoy the warm summer evening.

Further information can be obtained by telephoning the Audubon Center weekdays from 9 am to 5 pm at 264-5098.
