A Day To Remember

To the Editor:

Thank you Newtown for making the Tercentennial Birthday Celebration a day to remember. It is our hope that all who attended had a wonderful day.

Special thanks go to Newtown Savings Bank for sponsoring the fireworks; Mike FitzSimons for coordinating the outstanding fireworks display (best we have ever seen); State Rep Julia Wasserman; State Rep DebraLee Hovey; First Selectman Herb Rosenthal and the Board of Selectmen for their continuing support of tercentennial events; Brigette Sorensen (children’s quilting tent); Amy Mangold (coordinating the bands); Mark DeWolfe (Newtown Hook & Ladder); Al Cramer (info booth); Chris Blagbrough (maps); Maria DeMarco and Angela of DeMarco & Miles; Anthony (farmer); Bill Halstead and Henry Stormer (fire marshals); the Governor’s Horse Guard (First and Second Companies); Les Burroughs (antique car show); Ray Shaw (antique base ball games and signs); Newtown Bridle Lands Association (pony rides); Newtown Hook & Ladder, Sandy Hook Fire Company, Hawleyville Fire Company, Botsford Fire Company; Newtown Lions Club, Knights of Columbus, Newtown Ambulance Corps, Newtown Republican Town Committee and Newtown Democratic Town Committee for the great food; Dodgingtown Fire Company for the Dunk Tank; Children’s Adventure Center; Mike and Joy Filler and Mike Alcock for the reenactment; the Visiting Nurse Association; the Newtown Parks and Recreation Department park crew and office staff, especially John Moore, Archie Paloian, Jack Honan, Joe Freebairn, and Luis Otero; Treadwell Day Camp counselors who did face painting; Dominic Posca and the maintenance staff of the Newtown Board of Education; The C.H. Booth Library staff; Police Chief Michael Kehoe and Newtown Police Officers; Public Works Department; The Newtown Bee for all the coverage, before and after, and for sponsoring the Bocce Tournament; Newtown Country Club for the loan of a golf cart; Lereine Frampton, Jim Tomassetti, Denise Buckley for providing their school buses and drivers, Allen Potter of Newtown Tree Service for spraying the grounds, the Newtown Tercentennial Commission members and last, but not least, the 100 volunteers who turned out to assure everyone had a great day. If we have forgotten anyone, we apologize.

Also, many thanks to the bands: Eye Contact, Bad Boys Blues Band, Gutter Boogie and Harmony on the Sound and In Harmony, who all volunteered their time and talents to provide us with first-rate entertainment.
