Raising Money And Awareness For Marrow Donations

To the Editor:

During these troubled times when we turn on the television and all we find is destruction, personal tragedies, violence, war, and natural disaster all around us, it is refreshing to be able to share this story with you all.

A short while ago, a very dear friend of ours told us that her brother, Glenn Allen, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphomic Leukemia (ALL) and that he was in dire need of a bone marrow transplant. Unfortunately, there were no matches among the individuals who were kind enough to already be registered with the Gift of Life Bone Marrow Foundation and the other Bone Marrow Registries worldwide. In an effort to raise money for the Gift of Life Bone Marrow Foundation, we hosted a Benefit BBQ in our back yard on September 4. The outpouring of donations from our community touched us in such a way that we felt compelled to share with you all those who made contributions toward our cause and supported us by allowing us to put up posters in their businesses and providing us with much needed contributions.

We would like to thank: Walker Pressure Washing & Painting, Newtown Wine & Spirits, Coach’s Deli, Old Blue Bird Garage, Newtown Car Care, R. Mathison Floors, LLC, Colonial Auto Repair, Road Runner Kitchen, Super Fun Inflatables, Newtown Hardware, Pembroke Pumping Services, Inc, and Bethel Automotive. These wonderful business owners in our community never hesitated to contribute donations and to support our cause. We would ask that our entire community show their support to these business owners by patronizing their businesses. Without the support and contributions of these businesses we would not have been as successful as we were.

We thank them from the bottom of our hearts for helping to raise awareness of the desperate need for donors in our Bone Marrow Registries and would also ask that those of you who are not currently donors, please consider registering with The Gift of Life Bone Marrow Foundation. If you make a difference in just one life, you will touch them all. Thank you all for your support and your contributions.
